Terahertz isolator is a unidirectional pass through deviceNon interactive devices. The broadband terahertz isolator we have developed is based on magneto-optical media and does not require an external magnetic field.
The terahertz isolator consists of two terahertz polarizers polarized in specific directions and a magneto-optical medium that rotates the polarization state of the incident broadband terahertz beam by 45 °. The operating mechanism of a terahertz isolator is as follows: the terahertz beam passes through the first polarizer to become a linearly polarized beam, and then passes through a magnetized barium aluminum hexagonal ferrite. Due to the Faraday effect, the polarization state of the terahertz beam is rotated by 45 °. Next, the terahertz beam passes through the second polarizer (at a 45 ° angle to the first polarizer), so the direction of terahertz polarization after passing through the magneto-optical medium is exactly the same as the polarization direction of the second polarizer; When the same terahertz beam is reflected back to the terahertz isolator, its polarization state will also be rotated by 45 °, and it will be orthogonal to the polarization direction of the first polarizer that was initially incident and cannot be emitted. The above is the operating mechanism of terahertz isolators.
