Quality is visually assessed and controlled through supply chain lighting

In a globalized economy, maintaining consistency is extremely important.

Brands that keep their promises often retain their customers. Even in emerging markets, customers' expectations for consistent quality are increasing at a faster pace than manufacturers meeting their requirements.

Higher consistency is an inevitable trend in the industry, which will encourage brand owners to strengthen their control over the supply chain when necessary. Many brand owners have shortened their supply chains and partnered with fewer, more trustworthy partners rather than relying solely on price based partner selection. On the supplier side, if the advantages provided by partners and suppliers are expected to achieve more consistent quality control for brand owners, it will help prove their value.
When it comes to product color, especially in the clothing industry, automotive interiors, and other product categories where color is a key element, consistent quality control has always been particularly elusive. This issue has never been linked to the extremely advanced science of light and color. Some standards and practices have been established based on the latest science and supported by written standards and practices. However, due to inaccurate or inconsistent colors, brand owners and regulators still reject up to 50% of textile suppliers' initial sample approval opinions.
The challenges faced by visual color assessment are quite challenging, as these unqualified samples are expensive. The light source box can provide a certain degree of control, but the cold white fluorescent lamps in the new SpectraLight III (a trusted tool for inspectors for over a decade) may also be different from those in another light source box... or the other SpectraLight III may use old or different brands of lamps... or use identical equipment but be inspected by different operators' eyes. The light source box cannot ultimately solve this complex problem. We need a comprehensive visual evaluation system for instruments, information, and operators.

SpectraLight QC, the Macbeth lighting product from Aiseli, marks a new development in visual color assessment.

This overall solution features state-of-the-art light sources, as well as a data-driven backend for carefully monitoring lamp performance and conditions, and a system for training and certifying operators. For brand owners and regulators, SpectraLight QC is a revolutionary system used to establish standard operating procedures for the entire supply chain. For suppliers, SpectraLight QC is an investment that demonstrates your best practices in visual color assessment. In fact, standardized SpectraLight QC can reduce human errors, standardize visual assessment conditions, and save time and money at any checkpoint that requires approval throughout the entire supply chain (suppliers, vendors, procurement offices, all the way to product design and company quality control).

instrument

The lighting technology used by SpectraLight QC is superior to any light source box on the market. Due to the large number of light sources available in this instrument, including sunlight, incandescent light "A", horizontal sunlight, three types of fluorescence (any combination between CWF, U30, U35, TL83, and TL84), and UVa, which exceeds any other product, it can be applied to any specification. The integrated light sensor provides real-time digital output of fluorescent lamp illumination and can be set by the operator to meet industry standards such as ASTM and AATCC. The closed-loop fluorescent lamp control of the instrument allows operators to move from one light source to the next without waiting for the required preheating time. The same sensors and electronic products ensure real-time control of all fluorescent lamps, maintaining precise illumination throughout the entire lifespan of the bulb. SpectraLight QC also provides factory calibrated ultraviolet light, allowing users to adjust the amount of ultraviolet light according to sample requirements (based on application).

Information

Although lighting technology is the primary factor in visual assessment, reliable information is still needed to truly achieve consistency in the supply chain. To this end, SpectraLight QC generates and tracks data from various stages of visual assessment through its PC based reporting capability. Data - including company name, customer name, sample number, lamps used for evaluation, lamp condition (lamp age, remaining bulb life, illumination level, calibration information), operator name and certification (Farnsworth Munsell 100 color test score) - can be printed and sent with physical samples or transmitted electronically. Fundamentally, SpectraLight QC is its own auditing and tracking tool, facilitating the analysis of non-conforming samples and identifying the root cause of problems. By troubleshooting faster and easier, SpectraLight QC not only reduces the rate of sample non conformance, but also enables all parties involved to thoroughly investigate the supply chain and take corrective measures to eliminate potential issues in the future. Continuous improvement creates perfection.

Operator

The operator of the instrument and the technical solution to the visual assessment problem are equally important. The user programmable feature of SpectraLight QC allows suppliers to create custom configuration files based on brand owners' requirements for light sources, illumination levels, and other parameters, ensuring that operators use each program approved light and accurate settings. The system can also generate reports from this information and share them with customers to identify any inconsistencies. You can also create personal operator profile files to record their Farnsworth Munsell 100 hue test scores in these files. According to experts' estimates, up to 2% of women and 7% of men have color vision defects. In the past, brand owners may have had to send an operator twice a year to "calibrate" their entire supply chain's visual assessment tools around the world. By using SpectraLight QC, customers' preferences for instrument settings and requirements for operator vision can be shared through a PC to improve accuracy and compliance.
