Taber 6100 oscillating abrasion tester

Usually also known as the "sand particle shaker", as described in the ASTM F735 standard, the Taber oscillating abrasion tester is used to test the wear resistance and scratch resistance of material surfaces. It is mainly used to test the performance of transparent materials and coatings applied to glass and lenses. In addition, it can also be used to evaluate the wear resistance of organic coatings, plastics, metals, and other materials.

The sample is fixed in a fixed fixture at the bottom of the sand table, and the exposed height of the sample surface does not exceed 1mm. Place a uniform depth of standard abrasive medium such as quartz sand or alumina in the sand table.

The sand table moves back and forth under the drive of a specific driver, thereby driving the movement of the wear medium in the entire sand table. The random scraping mode of the abrasive medium can simulate the wear of the product in daily life.

Taber also allows users to use liquid grinding slurry for wear and corrosion testing. Users can also perform a "Bayer test" on the lens by purchasing relevant accessories. Its main purpose is to compare with the reference lens.

Taber's testing parameters can be adjusted, and users can choose their own round-trip length (1, 2, 3, or 4 inches) and speed (100-200 round-trip per minute). In addition, users are allowed to use different types of abrasion media including quartz sand, alumina, diamond sand, and glass beads for testing.
