The near drill bit instrument is designed to address the limitation of traditional MWD/LWD instruments where the measuring point is too far away from the drill bit.

In traditional downhole drilling tool assemblies, there are components such as motors, stabilizers, and non-magnetic sensors between the drill bit and the MWD/LWD sensor, which extend the distance between the measuring point and the drill bit and cause measurement data delay. In complex formations or thin reservoirs, delay can delay the judgment of the formation, prevent timely adjustment of drilling direction, and cause loss of drilling encounter rate.

The near drill bit instrument moves the measuring point down to the vicinity of the drill bit. The measuring point of GS-ABT is about 30cm away from the drill bit, which can reflect the engineering and geological data of the drill bit position in real time, eliminate hysteresis, and improve the real-time response efficiency of drilling. It is particularly effective for drilling control in thin oil layers and complex formations.
