1. Purpose

This smoke opacity measuring telescope is a specialized instrument used by environmental protection departments and industrial and mining enterprises to monitor environmental pollution and energy conservation.

This instrument converts the monitoring of smoke and dust from the daily measurement method of Ringman smoke concentration map to remote measurement through high-quality prism telescopes. Therefore, it has a series of advantages such as small size, large field of view, long distance measurement, fast speed, high accuracy, easy portability, and easy mastery. It is an ideal instrument for monitoring the blackness of smoke and dust.

3、 Structural principle

This instrument adopts a binocular prism telescope system, and on the telescope reticle, there are corresponding grayscale step blocks of 1-5 levels in the dry Ringman smoke concentration map. The fully transparent part is level 0. The observer compares the smoke target with the grayscale step block of that level through the left eyepiece of the telescope to determine the standard level of smoke blackness.

4、 Usage method

Take out the instrument from the leather bag, degas the eyepiece cover and objective cover, then align the instrument with the monitored chimney mouth, adjust the telescope to make the black smoke emitted from the chimney mouth clear, and then compare and determine. When measuring, the following points should be noted:

1. The illumination light during observation (i.e. direct sunlight or illumination from the sky) should be side light, approximately at a right angle to the line of sight, and avoid frontal light and backlighting;

2. In cloudy and foggy conditions, due to the dark background of the sky, readings should be taken at a slightly lower level;

3. There should be no dark obstacles such as mountains, trees, or buildings on the background of the chimney exit;

4. When observing, it should represent the normal operation status of the boiler, and the boiler load should be kept above 80% of the rated load. At this time, water should not be added to the coal, and excessive air blowing should not be used for balance release;

5. Observation cannot be based on one time, and the interval between each observation can be controlled between 0.1-1 minutes. The data should be recorded sequentially (instantaneous blackness per observation). If the blackness of the smoke is between level 2, the blackness value of level 1/2 can be estimated. Finally, the average of the measured values is taken as the blackness of the smoke;

5、 Maintenance

1. The instrument should be placed in a ventilated and dry place, and kept away from volatile or highly corrosive chemicals such as acid and alkali

2. During use, collision should be prevented, and the appearance and patterned rubber of the instrument should also avoid contact with organic solvents

3. The internal components such as the telescope objective and eyepiece have been inspected and sealed, and should not be opened arbitrarily. If there is dust or dirt on the mirror surface, it can be wiped off with a lens brush or lens paper

4. After each use, it is necessary to cover the eyes and objective lens separately, wipe the surface clean, and then put them into a bag
