Downflow denitrification
The DENIFOR downflow denitrification and filtration system used for secondary wastewater treatment adopts high surface area media, which can support larger microbial population densities in the same volume, thereby achieving higher nitrate nitrogen removal rates in a smaller footprint.
Relying on mature BioFOR technology, this system can complete biological denitrification and removal of suspended solids in one step. This process enables the secondary wastewater to flow through the high surface area medium Biolite * bed under the action of gravity. Biolite has a large number of biological communities of the same volume, which can generate wastewater that meets the highest technical standards.
The advantages of Biolite * help reduce capital expenditures and provide an excellent alternative solution for wastewater treatment plants that are limited by site and require minimal footprint.
In addition to a higher nitrate nitrogen removal rate, the downward flow properties of the system also provide excellent suspended solids capture rate.
Shallow bed filters can be chosen, which provide an opportunity to retrofit existing three-stage filtration systems compared to deep bed filters and help reduce the size of backwash pumps, thereby lowering operating costs.
